A new €2000 grant will be automatically paid to eligible caregivers starting June 5, 2025, making it easier for those in need to receive support.
The Carer’s Allowance, Carer’s Benefit, and Domiciliary Care Allowance recipients will automatically receive this payment. Mark your calendars for June 5, 2025, when the Carer’s Support Grant will be paid out.
So, who can get this grant? If you’re receiving one of the specified payments, you’re in! It’s not means-tested, so even if you don’t get those payments, you might still qualify.
To be eligible, you need to be at least 16 years old, live in Ireland, and care for someone full-time for at least six months. You also need to live with the person you’re caring for or be easily reachable.
During those six months, you can’t work more than 18.5 hours a week or take part in training for more than that time. You also can’t be living in a hospital or similar place.
If you’re already getting Carer’s Allowance or the other payments, you don’t need to apply. You’ll get the grant automatically. If not, you’ll need to fill out an application for each person you care for.
You can grab the application form from your local Intreo Centre or Citizens Information Centre. You can apply for the grant from April of the year until December of the following year.
For example, apply for the 2024 grant anytime from April 2024 to December 2025. It’s all pretty straightforward, so don’t miss out on this support!
