Molly-May Thirkettle, a 17-year-old beauty student, has started her own business after impressing her work experience boss at Bella Beauty and Training Academy in Darlington.
Molly-May impressed Sophie so much that she was offered a chair in the salon. Now, she’s attracting her own clients while helping out at the academy on Thompson Street East.
After leaving Wyvern Academy, Molly-May started a childcare course at Darlington College. This year, she switched to Level 2 beauty therapy. Her work experience at Sophie’s salon felt like home.
Molly-May enjoyed chatting with customers and making drinks. She also cleaned and practiced eyelash application. Before leaving, Sophie invited her to work Saturdays and offered her a chair for her clients.
Now, Molly-May has launched Timeless Beauty, focusing on lashes, microblading, and more. She gained 100 Instagram followers in one day. She’s always loved beauty and has been doing nails since childhood.
Her family encouraged her to look nice and make a good impression. Molly-May credits her college tutors and Sophie for their support in starting her business.
Sophie sees a bit of herself in Molly-May. She attended Darlington College years ago but left for work. After years in retail and call centers, she returned to study and opened her salon.
Sophie was impressed by Molly-May’s hard work and interest. She takes on many work experience students to give back to the community. It shows what can happen when you give people a chance.
Sophie started in her living room, then took a chair, and now runs the whole building. She believes there are no limits if you want something enough. Molly-May is a great example of how work experience can lead to success.
