Ireland: Get ready for some chilly days ahead! The weather is turning cold with wintry showers expected soon. Temperatures are set to drop significantly.

Met Éireann has warned of scattered showers across the country on Wednesday night. Northern Ireland has issued a yellow ice warning for Antrim, Fermanagh, Tyrone, and Derry from 10 PM until Thursday morning.

Overnight temperatures could dip below -2 degrees. Alan O’Reilly from Carlow Weather mentioned a biting windchill coming our way.

Looking ahead, weather experts suggest a significant cold pool might arrive in February. Forecaster Paul Blight noted a large anticyclone forming over North West Russia next week.

Blight explained that models indicate a cold pool could move from Eastern Europe to North West Europe by next weekend. He mentioned that February often sees successful easterly incursions.

He also shared that a classic cold pool could deepen as it moves west, potentially bringing snow, similar to the winter of 1991.

However, Blight remains cautious, stating that it’s still uncertain if this scenario will happen. We’ll need to monitor the trends closely.

According to Met Éireann, Wednesday night will be mostly dry with some scattered showers in the north and west. Expect frost and ice as temperatures fall between -2 and +1 degrees.

Thursday will start off dry with sunny spells, but clouds will increase later. Rain will develop in Atlantic counties by evening, with temperatures reaching 5 to 9 degrees.

On Thursday night, rain will move east, becoming heavy at times. Expect clear spells and isolated showers afterward, with temperatures dropping to 0 to 5 degrees.

Friday looks dry with hazy sunshine and temperatures between 7 to 9 degrees. It will become cloudy at night with light rain in the west.

Saturday will be breezy and cloudy, with light rain expected. Heavier rain will arrive in the west by evening, with temperatures ranging from 7 to 12 degrees.
