Irish households could miss out on a €125 bonus if they don’t meet specific energy usage criteria. The bonus will be paid between January and February 2025.
Galway: Households might miss a €125 bonus if they don’t meet one key requirement. The final Electricity Account Credit will be paid from January to February 2025, and some people are already receiving it.
There’s a specific condition related to your electricity usage that you should know about. To qualify for the energy credits, you need to meet the following criteria.
- You must be registered as either an urban (DG1) or rural (DG2) domestic customer.
- You need to be registered with an electricity supplier in the Republic of Ireland and have a unique Meter Point Registration Number (MPRN), which you can find on your bill.
- Your account should not be classified as low usage.
If your property has very low electricity usage, you won’t automatically get the credits. The low usage threshold is using less than 150kWh of energy per quarter from September 2023 to August 2024.
However, this low usage threshold doesn’t apply if you are on the vulnerable customer register, have a hardship PAYG meter, have a microgeneration account, or if your supplier confirms that your MPRN address is your main home.
If you own multiple properties in Ireland, like a holiday home, you can expect a separate electricity credit for each account. Pre-pay electricity users can also receive the credit. Their energy supplier will contact them via text, email, or on their top-up note.
As the payment date approaches, energy suppliers will provide specific instructions for redeeming the €125 credits. If you rent and pay your landlord directly for electricity, the credit should be passed on to you.
Don’t worry if you don’t see your energy credit right away. Some providers have warned that it might take longer to appear. The credit may not show up on your first bill, depending on your billing cycle.
It’s a good idea to check your energy supplier’s website for exact dates and updates.
