Galway: Home improvements can help lower your bills by making your home energy-efficient. But, the initial costs can be high.

Luckily, there are grants available to help homeowners improve their energy ratings. You can get up to €10,000 for upgrades like insulation and solar panels.

The National Home Energy Upgrade Scheme is here to help. It offers grants to boost your home’s energy efficiency. After the upgrades, your home should reach an energy rating of B2 or higher.

Homeowners, private landlords, and approved housing bodies can apply. To qualify, your property must be built before 2011 and have a BER of B3 or lower before the work.

You also need to use a registered company to manage the process. The Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) oversees the grants, working with private firms known as One Stop Shops.

Grants cover various upgrades, including attic insulation, heating controls, and solar panels. The amount you can receive varies based on your property type, with up to €10,000 available.

To apply, reach out to an SEAI registered One Stop Shop. They will guide you through the application process.
