Irish drivers must now provide their driver numbers when buying car insurance, starting March 31. This aims to reduce uninsured drivers on the roads.
This change is part of a law passed last year. It aims to help get uninsured drivers off the roads. Without your driver number, renewing your insurance will be tough.
The Irish Motor Insurance Database (IMID) will now require this information. Insurance companies won’t issue policies without it. Gardai can check this database using their devices to find uninsured drivers.
During roadside checks, they can also verify driver numbers. This will help keep the roads safer. An Garda Siochana’s assistant commissioner highlighted the importance of this new system.
Insurance Ireland supports this initiative. They are working to collect driver numbers from their customers. A national awareness campaign will start soon to inform everyone about these changes.
