Police warned drivers about bad parking this week. Officers in Roscommon found a car with a trailer blocking two disabled parking spots in town. They gave the driver a parking ticket.

Police reminded everyone to respect disabled spaces and to leave them open for those who need them.

Separately, police stopped a speeding driver on the N17 over the holiday. The driver went 166km/h in a 100km/h zone. Tests showed they used cannabis and cocaine.

Police arrested the driver, who will now go to court because of it.

Road speed limits are changing soon. Some limits will drop by 20 km/h on February 7. This aims to reduce common road accidents. Rural local road limits will fall from 80km/h to 60km/h. New signs will show the updated limits.

One person shared a helpful tip online: speed limits stay the same on main roads, including motorways and national roads. The change only affects local roads marked with “L”. Remember this to avoid speeding fines.
