In Mayo, Gardai arrested a novice driver for speeding at 190km/h in a 100km/h zone. Their car was seized, and court proceedings are set to follow.
The driver was caught going nearly twice the speed limit on the N5 near Charlestown. It was a rainy Friday night when officers noticed the vehicle speeding at 190km/h in a 100km/h zone.
Upon stopping the car, they found out the driver was still a novice. The driver was arrested, and their car was seized right away. Court proceedings will follow.
This incident follows another one in Galway. There, Tuam traffic gardai caught a driver speeding at 206km/h on the M6 near Ballinasloe. The speed limit on that motorway is 120km/h.
Just like in Mayo, the vehicle was seized, and court action is expected. Gardai are serious about road safety, especially this Bank Holiday weekend. They are focusing on speeding, intoxicated driving, and other unsafe behaviors.
