The date for the €2000 social welfare payment has shifted, benefiting specific recipients automatically.
Three groups will benefit from this allowance later this year. The Carer’s Support Grant has increased from €1,850 to €2,000 in the 2025 Budget. If you care for more than one person, you’ll get a grant for each individual.
This grant is automatically given to those on the Carer’s Allowance, Carer’s Benefit, and Domiciliary Care Allowance. So, if you’re already receiving these, you don’t need to do anything extra.
Mark your calendars! The Carer’s Support Grant will be paid on June 5, 2025. To qualify, you need to be getting one of the payments mentioned earlier on the first Thursday in June.
You don’t have to worry about means testing for this grant. Even if you’re not on those payments, you might still qualify. Just make sure you meet the age and residency requirements, and you’ve been caring for someone full-time for at least six months.
During that six-month period, there are some work restrictions. You can’t work more than 18.5 hours a week or take part in training for more than that time.
If you’re already receiving the Carer’s Allowance, Carer’s Benefit, or Domiciliary Care Allowance, you don’t need to apply. You’ll automatically get the grant in June. If not, you’ll need to fill out an application form for each person you care for.
You can grab the application form from your local Intreo Centre, Social Welfare Branch Office, or Citizens Information Centre. You can apply for the grant from April of the year until December of the following year. So, keep an eye on those dates!
