Connemara: Gardai were called to a road traffic incident in Galway on Thursday morning.
The incident happened around 7:30 AM on the R336 in Indreabhán village. A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle.
The ambulance service treated the female pedestrian at the scene. Thankfully, she received prompt care.
A Garda spokesperson confirmed the collision involved a vehicle and a pedestrian. Traffic in the area is flowing freely now.
In other news, speed limits on many Irish roads will drop by 20 km/h next month. This change aims to reduce common road accidents.
Rural local roads will see a speed limit decrease from 80 km/h to 60 km/h starting February 7. New signs will reflect this change.
Almost 73% of road deaths from 2020 to 2024 occurred on rural roads with higher speed limits. Serious injuries also happened frequently on these roads.
These changes are part of the Road Traffic Act 2024, with more reductions planned later this year.
Urban speed limits will drop from 50 km/h to 30 km/h, and national secondary roads will decrease from 100 km/h to 80 km/h.
