West Yorkshire: Police are warning retailers about counterfeit Scottish banknotes. These fake notes are showing up in local shops.

Officers found fake Clydesdale £20 notes. Criminals are using them to buy items and then return them for real cash.

On January 21, police arrested three men in West Yorkshire. They were charged with possessing counterfeit currency.

Patrick Ward, 22, and Jason Ward, 19, both from Galway, are facing serious charges. They will appear in Leeds Crown Court on February 21.

Another man, William Browne, 19, also from Galway, has been released on bail. He will also appear in court on the same date.

Police are looking into similar crimes across Wakefield, Barnsley, Sheffield, and Chesterfield.

Detective Sergeant Craig Twycross urged shop workers to be careful. He advised them to check banknotes thoroughly.

He emphasized knowing the security features of real notes. If unsure, compare the suspect note with a genuine one.

If you find any fake notes, report them to the police. The National Crime Agency has shared tips on spotting counterfeit currency.
