Ofsted lauds St James Church School for its positive learning environment and good ratings across key areas.
The school got “good” ratings in all major areas. These areas are education, behavior, and personal growth. Leadership, management, and early years also got good marks. The headteacher is happy with the report.
Inspectors liked the learning environment. They noted a strong sense of community and that students are happy to be there. Teachers expect a lot from pupils. Kids try hard and behave well, which helps them learn the curriculum.
The school feels safe and supportive. Kids know they can talk to adults. Staff care about the pupils and good relationships build community. Students are proud to care for each other.
Students have leadership roles at school and respect visitors. Some kids support younger students. The school gives new experiences; for example, pupils go see plays.
The school has a good curriculum. Leaders changed things well for staff and the curriculum is broad for all pupils, including those needing special help. Reading is a big focus for the school.
Younger children love books and are read to in fun ways. They use toys to tell stories. The school wants kids to enjoy reading early. However, phonics teaching needs work. Some staff need more phonics training, which means some kids learn slower.
The school manages behavior well and has high expectations for students. This reduced bad behavior and suspensions. The school wants better attendance and fewer pupils are missing school now. But the school keeps helping families and wants even better attendance rates.
The school values personal growth and they celebrate the school’s diversity. Students respect different views, and pupils learn to be good citizens. Kids work with politicians to improve parks. Governors support the school well.
To improve, staff need more phonics help so all pupils learn phonics well. Also, some subjects need better lesson plans because some kids missed things before. The school must improve the curriculum.
