The Oxbridge Social Club in Stockton closed in January after decades of service. The owner sold the property for redevelopment, disappointing locals.
The club was on Sheraton Street and it stopped running. The owner apparently sold the place, and it seems like they closed mid-January.
The club first opened in the 1970s. Many locals have good memories there. A Facebook post said it’s over, and someone asked if they could save it.
The club’s Facebook page responded, saying the property was already sold. The new owner plans to redevelop it. A news source tried contacting the club.
People are sad about the closing and shared fond memories online. Someone said they worked many events there and that they hate seeing it go.
Another person said it’s just another club closing. Someone else said they drank there for thirty years and they will miss it a lot.
Some other clubs also recently closed. The Thornaby Sports and Leisure Club shut last summer. The Eston and California, on Eston High Street, closed in 2023 after being open for 99 years.
