Stockton: A 31-year-old student named Haider Ali was found guilty of rape. The jury at Teesside Crown Court reached a unanimous decision. His family reacted with tears and shouting as the verdict was announced.

Ali raped two women within hours. The first incident happened late at night in a derelict building. The second occurred after he spoke with a woman on Spring Street. The victims did not know each other.

Police arrested Ali the next day after an appeal for information. He had his passport, claiming he was going to see a solicitor. Ali moved to Middlesbrough in January 2024 to study computer games programming.

He worked part-time at a pizza shop while studying. Ali claimed he agreed to pay both women for sex but denied the rapes. He said they lied about the incidents.

As the verdict was read, Ali’s relatives protested loudly. The judge warned them to be quiet. He stated that Ali would face a significant prison sentence but needed a pre-sentence report first.

Ali was remanded in custody, and the sentencing will take place on March 17.
