Roy Varley, a convicted rapist, has died in prison at age 63 from natural causes after serving time for his crimes against young girls
He was convicted of other sex offenses against two young girls. Varley was also found guilty of fraud. He was locked up on June 11, 2018.
Varley died of natural causes at HMP Wakefield on June 8, 2024. An investigation confirmed he had malignant adenocarcinoma, which is a type of cancer.
NHS England looked into his medical care while he was in prison. They found that the care he received was reasonable and similar to what he would have gotten outside.
The report noted some good practices, like including his palliative care consultant in meetings. The investigators found no issues with his non-clinical care.
