Seven football fans were arrested after the Middlesbrough-Sunderland game on Monday night. The match took place at Riverside Stadium.

Police had warned fans about potential disorder and stated that such behavior would not be tolerated. Cleveland Police gave an update on Tuesday, confirming the seven arrests.

Only one suspect comes from Teesside. A 17-year-old from Billingham was arrested on suspicion of public order offenses and was charged with harassment and alarm. The teen is currently out on bail with the condition that he cannot attend UK football matches.

A 26-year-old man from Sunderland was arrested on suspicion of harassment and alarm and must appear in court. A 20-year-old from Seaham was also arrested on suspicion of assault and being drunk and has received conditional bail.

Ryan Hearne, 32, from Stoke-on-Trent, was arrested after police suspected him of going onto the pitch and now faces charges. A 64-year-old Sunderland man was arrested on suspicion of actual bodily harm and also received conditional bail.

Will Robertson, 20, from Houghton-Le-Spring, was arrested on suspicion of throwing items, and charges have been filed against him. Kyne Stanforth, 33, from Immingham, was also arrested on suspicion of throwing objects and is now charged as well.

Police worked with Middlesbrough FC before the game to ensure everyone’s safety. Officers were present at the match to stop anyone causing trouble and stated they could issue football banning orders.
