Discover how a simple booking hack can save Ryanair passengers up to 40% on flights, especially for families traveling with kids
If you’re traveling with kids, you might save up to 40% on your fare. Many passengers have found that picking the ‘Basic’ fare and adding extras like seat reservations and cabin bags can really cut costs.
The savings depend on your route and how many people are traveling. But they can be pretty significant. It all comes down to how you add those extras.
When you choose your flights, you’ll see different fare options like ‘Basic’, ‘Regular’, and ‘Plus’. Families can also select a ‘Family Plus’ option.
You might think the ‘Regular’ fare is the best choice since it includes priority boarding and two cabin bags. But if you go for the Basic fare and add what you need separately, you could save a lot.
Ryanair’s Family Plus fare is great if you have one adult flying with a child under 15. It includes a 20kg check-in bag and free seats for kids.
But many families miss out on savings by not realizing that kids under 12 can get free seats. Just pick seats marked ‘included’ for them.
According to Money Saving Expert, booking separately can save you around 30% on average. Some families even reported saving up to 59% compared to the Regular fare.
I tried this out for a trip from Dublin to Malaga for two adults and two kids. The total fare was €826. The Regular fare added €260, but booking extras separately only cost €216, saving 17%.
The Family Plus fare would have cost €1184, adding €358. But by choosing the Basic fare and using the free family seating, I saved another €40.
By only selecting the baggage we actually needed, I managed to save 37% compared to the Family Plus fare. Plus, if you’re traveling with a baby, you can check in two pieces of baby equipment for free.
So, keep these tips in mind when booking your next Ryanair flight. You might be surprised at how much you can save!
