Many workers can claim tax refunds for 2024. Here’s how to check if you’re owed money and what you can claim back.
It’s estimated that about 500,000 PAYE workers might be owed over €600. Revenue has around €620 million in overpaid tax from the past few years.
Even though workers could get between €600 and €900 back, two-thirds haven’t submitted a tax return. So, how do you check if you’re owed a refund?
First, log in to ‘My Account’ on Revenue.ie. Then, go to the PAYE Services section and click ‘Review your tax for the previous 4 years.’ Select the tax year 2024 and request your Statement of Liability.
You’ll see if you have an underpayment or overpayment. No matter the result, it’s important to complete your income tax return for 2024. This way, you can claim back money for medical expenses, rent relief, and more.
There’s a long list of things you can claim tax back on from the last four years. This includes GP visits, prescriptions, and even dental work like braces or laser eye surgery.
You can find the full list of qualifying medical costs on Revenue.ie. Other common claims include medical insurance relief and tuition fees.
If your situation changed during the year, like switching jobs or taking unpaid maternity leave, you might be due a nice refund.
