Middlesbrough: A local pizzeria is in hot water after inspectors found rats running up the walls. The Pizza Shop on Linthorpe Road was a total mess.

When the hygiene team showed up, they discovered an open tray of rat poison on the floor. Yikes! The place was covered in dirt, grease, and food that looked unfit for anyone to eat.

They even found grime on cooking surfaces, walls, and pipes. It was a health hazard, for sure. Live rats were spotted during the inspection, which is just gross.

The owner, Tariq Nazir, was told to shut it down immediately. Even after reopening, the place still had dirty areas and mouse droppings. Not good at all!

The court heard Nazir had a history of hygiene issues dating back to 2018. He admitted to five food hygiene offenses. His lawyer said he was trying to fix things but fell short.

Nazir had a lot going on in his life, including family issues. The judge acknowledged this but stressed that he still had a responsibility to keep the business safe.

In the end, Nazir got a suspended prison sentence and a five-year ban from managing any food business. Middlesbrough Council emphasized the importance of food safety in the community.

They’re serious about protecting public health and will take action when needed. This case serves as a reminder that hygiene matters in food businesses.
