A rapist who was caught after his victim bravely spoke out has died in prison, leaving behind a complex legacy of pain and justice.
This victim, who remains unnamed, was only ten when North assaulted her. At his sentencing, she expressed how he stole her childhood. She hoped to find closure and rebuild her life after his conviction.
Sadly, just over three years into his sentence, North passed away at HMP Northumberland. He was admitted to a hospital with jaundice and abdominal pain. Doctors discovered he had incurable lung cancer that had spread to his liver.
He received palliative care until he died on August 7, 2024. An inquest confirmed that his death was due to natural causes. The coroner noted that his medical care was on par with what he would have received outside prison.
This case highlights the ongoing struggles of victims and the complex nature of justice. While North’s death may bring some closure, the impact of his actions will linger for those he harmed.
