A new club night is starting in Galway. It’s called Damhsa and aims to revive the city’s dance scene. They want to create an inclusive space for everyone. Damhsa wants to be more than just a typical club.

They hope to bring new energy to Galway’s nightlife. They plan to showcase local and international talent. They know Galway’s nightlife faces challenges; Damhsa wants to rebuild and reshape the dance culture. It will be a safe space where people can express themselves.

They want people to experience something new, and people can also experiment with music and dance freely. Change is needed to grow, they believe. It’s a place for underground music. They see commercial clubs dominating the music scene. Taking risks is crucial for finding new sounds.

Damhsa wants a mix of local and international artists. This keeps the nights inclusive for everyone. They especially need dancers to support the project.

Galway prepares for a big student party week. University of Galway’s student union launched it. The fun lasts from February 9 to February 14, 2025. The student union announced its RAG week charities: Galway Rape Crisis Centre and Galway Autism Partnership.

Many events are planned for fundraising. Events include a firewalk and head shave. There is also an auction and a 5km run. A Galentine’s brunch and sports are also scheduled; pop-up shops will sell items for charity.

RAG Week was suspended in 2011 due to concerns. It was revived in 2024 and was a success. The 2025 RAG Week is now the biggest yet.
The RAG run is on February 10, 2025, at 12:30 PM. Entry costs €10, going to charity. The fancy dress theme? Heroes and Villains.

Flirt FM will also host a 24-hour radio event. A charity clothes shop happens on Tuesday. It is at Áras na Mac Léinn from 11 AM to 3 PM; Galway Simon Community runs this event. The firewalk starts at 6 PM on Tuesday.

A special event marks “Mayo Monday.” It features musicians at Sult bar. On Wednesday, students will shave their heads. This also raises charity money between 2 PM and 3 PM.
The big event, SOS, starts at 7 PM. It is a mini-festival with ten acts. The SU Charity Cup is on Wednesday from 11 AM to 4 PM. The winner of the five-a-side football gets €500.

Writers Soc has a blind date with a book event. This takes place in the View from 12 PM to 3 PM. Thursday includes a Galentine’s brunch. This occurs at Sult from 11 AM to midday; proceeds go to the RAG Week charities. Sult hosts speed quizzing starting at 7 PM.

A charity auction is on February 14, 2025, at Sult. Colm O’Donnellan will lead the auction. Tickets cost only €5. Akumakon also happens in Sult from 8 PM on Friday.

Chloe Anderson thanks the University for the opportunity. She feels the week brings back good times. Students can make friends and volunteer. Galway’s RAG Week isn’t the only event. The Atlantic Technological University will also announce their plans; Galway’s pubs also plan to participate.
