British Steel has launched a new £26m service centre in Skinningrove, boosting local manufacturing and enhancing its operations in the region
Skinningrove: British Steel just opened a shiny new £26 million service center. This place is all about making steel profiles for various industries, like construction and mining.
They’ve been in Skinningrove for over 150 years and employ around 300 folks. While no new jobs were created, over 1,000 contractors helped build this new facility.
Interestingly, this investment comes as British Steel’s owner, Jingye, chats with the government about future plans. They’re looking for support to upgrade their Scunthorpe site.
There’s been some buzz about scrapping plans for a new furnace in Teesside, focusing instead on Scunthorpe. Local politicians are trading letters, but no final decisions have been made yet.
Richard Napier from British Steel shared that this is their biggest investment in over 30 years. He’s excited about the future and the positive feedback from customers.
They plan to expand their product range beyond forklift mast profiles. Teesside has a rich industrial history, and this investment aims to keep that legacy alive.
