Middlesbrough: Pensioners can now get cash support for their energy bills. The council is using government funds to help those who missed out on the Winter Fuel Payment.

If you’re over 80 and get Council Tax Reduction but didn’t get the Winter Fuel Payment, you can receive £200. For those aged 66 to 79, the amount is £150. About 2,000 households could benefit from this.

Eligible folks will get payments automatically if the council has their details. They’ve also sent letters to others who might qualify, asking for confirmation of their info.

The council is encouraging anyone who thinks they might qualify to apply. Pensioners on Attendance Allowance who missed the Winter Fuel Payment can apply for £100 too.

Low-income pensioners not on benefits can also apply for £100 if their income is below £20,000 for singles or £26,000 for couples. Cllr Nicky Walker mentioned that they want to help pensioners this winter.

Many older people might miss out on benefits due to small pensions or savings. The council is sending out letters to inform people about these payments. They want to reach as many eligible folks as possible.

Applications for the Household Support Fund need to be in by February 28. For more details on how to apply, check the council’s website or call them directly if you need help with the application.
