Middlesbrough’s indoor market is expanding with new traders after a significant investment, creating more space and opportunities for local businesses to thrive.
Seven new units opened up after renovating the old Fulton’s Food store. Two popular businesses, ASB Football Shirts and PM Toys and Collectables, have expanded into larger spaces.
A mini mall now features local independent shops like Heaven on Earth, Sharon’s Handmade Crafts, and Bloody Creations. Vintage 101, a retro fashion shop, is also attracting customers from all over Teesside.
Subhan Beg, the owner of Vintage 101, shared that people love vintage clothing for its quality. His shop offers classic styles from the 1950s to the 70s, featuring brands like Sergio Tacchini and Tommy Hilfiger.
In the older section of the market, new opportunities are popping up. Trader Phil, who took time off for knee surgery, is back with LMC Clearance. He offers a variety of items at low prices to help customers save money.
Market Manager David Harris noted that even during slow retail times, there’s a positive vibe. The investment shows confidence in the market’s future, especially after big retailers left the area.
David emphasized that the market provides affordable products and a supportive environment for new traders. They’re also looking for a florist, barber, and deli to complete their offerings.
Retail can be tough, but David believes it’s a great way to be your own boss if you’re dedicated.
