Met Eireann warns of rain and wind for the Bank Holiday, but milder temperatures and dry spells are expected, providing some relief for the weekend.
Dublin: A well-needed Bank Holiday is here, but the weather might not cooperate. Many hoped for dry and sunny days after a rough week.
A weather system is moving in, bringing heavy rain and gusty winds. But there’s a silver lining: temperatures will be milder, and some dry spells are expected.
Met Eireann has warned of a “changeable weather pattern” as we head into early February. However, they also mentioned there will be “plenty of dry weather” too.
After the chaos from Storm Eowyn last weekend, we enjoyed a brief calm. But forecasts predict a significant weather shift soon.
The first week of February will start with high pressure to the east and low pressure to the northwest. This means warmer temperatures than usual for this time of year.
However, we might also see more rain than average. February is known for being wet, so extra rain isn’t ideal.
Here’s what Met Eireann forecasts for the Bank Holiday Weekend:
On Friday night, the western half of the country will be cloudy with light rain and drizzle from the Atlantic. Temperatures will drop to 5 to 8 degrees. The east will stay mostly dry at first, but clouds will increase overnight.
On Saturday, expect cloudy skies with scattered light rain and drizzle, especially in coastal areas. However, north Leinster and east Ulster will have plenty of dry weather. It will be breezy with temperatures reaching 9 to 12 degrees.
Saturday night will bring a band of rain from the Atlantic, moving east across the country. The western half will clear before dawn on Sunday. Temperatures will drop to 3 to 7 degrees.
On Sunday, rain in the east will clear quickly, leaving a dry and bright day. Expect some hazy sunshine, but it will become overcast in the northwest later. Temperatures will be 7 to 10 degrees.
Sunday night looks mostly dry, but there’s a chance of rain in Atlantic coastal areas. Temperatures will range from 3 to 6 degrees in the east and 7 to 10 degrees in the west.
On Monday, expect a breezy day with rain from the Atlantic affecting the west and northwest. Most other areas will stay dry, with temperatures reaching 10 to 12 degrees.
Monday night will see rain extending east, becoming heavy at times, especially in the south. Minimum temperatures will be 5 to 8 degrees with strong winds.
