Exciting news for Galway! A major housing project is underway, bringing over 500 new beds to the city. This is a big step for local accommodation.
The project is by McHugh Property Holdings. They got the green light from the city council last October. It’s a large-scale residential development with seven blocks. The site is near Coolough Road.
Work started in mid-January. They’re prepping the site for 84 apartments. Some old buildings will be torn down to make way for this.
The plan includes 586 bedspaces across those seven blocks. The tallest one will be five stories high. There will also be communal areas and a café.
They’re adding nice landscaping and a walkway too. Plus, a new entrance for cars and safe crossings for pedestrians and cyclists.
Improvements on Dyke Road will help connect the site to the University of Galway. They even plan to use some of the accommodation for short-term rentals in summer.
This project is set to make a real difference in Galway. Exciting times ahead for the city!
