Police uncovered a massive cannabis farm in East Cleveland, valued at £2.5m, after receiving tips from the public about suspicious activity.
Officers got a tip-off from the public and acted quickly. They forced their way into the unit on Monday morning. Inside, they found thousands of cannabis plants spread out in different growing areas.
On Tuesday, crime scene officers were still at the site, gathering evidence. They’re trying to track down who was behind this illegal operation. The Redcar and East Cleveland Neighbourhood Policing Team led the charge, with help from their Matrix colleagues.
NPT Chief Inspector Tom Sewell mentioned that no one was found at the scene. He urged local workers and visitors to check their CCTV or dashcam footage. Any little detail could help with their investigation.
The police are committed to tackling drug-related issues in the community. They’re always on the lookout for tips from residents.
Meanwhile, officers called in NEDL to secure the electrics at the unit, which had been tampered with. All the cannabis plants will be removed and destroyed.
As part of the investigation, a Mercedes Sprinter van was also seized. If anyone has information or footage that could assist, they should reach out to Cleveland Police at 101, referencing 010979.
