Galway: Exciting news for students! The city council just approved a big housing project. This new student accommodation will have 240 beds, perfect for those studying nearby.

After nearly four years of planning, Westside Investments finally got the green light. The location is super convenient, just a short walk from the University of Galway and close to two major supermarkets.

The project started back in 2021, but it took a while to get everything sorted. There were some appeals and changes along the way, but now it’s all set to go. The new building will be on Seamus Quirke Road, right in the Westside area.

It’ll be a seven-story block with over 7,500 square meters of space. Plus, there’s a large underground car park for residents. The living arrangements will be in clusters, with each one housing four to eight students.

Each cluster will have shared living, dining, and kitchen areas, making it a great place to live and study. The area is also packed with amenities like parks, pubs, and shops, making it a lively spot for students.

The final tweaks to the plans were made in late 2024, and the council gave the final approval on January 20, 2025. They even made some adjustments to the building’s height and layout to fit better with the surroundings.

This new accommodation will definitely help ease the housing crunch for students in Galway. It’s a win-win for everyone involved!
