Several schools in Galway were evacuated due to a fire at Xerotech Battery Systems. Emergency services are on the scene, ensuring everyone’s safety.
Fire crews and Garda vehicles quickly arrived at the scene. They worked throughout Wednesday and into Thursday. The area around the corporate park was cordoned off for safety.
On Thursday afternoon, Coláiste Baile Chlair, Claregalway National School, and the Educate Together School were evacuated. This was a precautionary measure as the fire was under control.
A spokesperson from Coláiste Baile Chlair confirmed they completed a controlled evacuation. Students were sent home safely. The same was true for the Educate Together Primary School and Claregalway National School.
Witnesses reported seeing multiple fire engines at the scene. All employees of Xerotech Battery Systems were safely evacuated.
Gardaí confirmed they received the fire report at 7:15 AM. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
As of Thursday morning, clean-up efforts were ongoing. Roads around the corporate park remain closed. Gardaí have asked the public to avoid the area to help emergency services.
This isn’t the first fire at Claregalway Corporate Park. A similar incident occurred in September 2022, but no injuries were reported then either.
