Health insurance prices in Ireland are set to rise again, with VHI leading the way. Families could see increases of up to €500 this year.
Dublin: Health insurance prices are going up again in Ireland. VHI just announced another increase.
This is the third price hike in less than a year. Other insurers like Laya are expected to follow soon.
Starting in March, VHI premiums will rise by 3%. Laya plans to increase its prices by April, and Irish Life will likely raise theirs in the summer.
These hikes could add around €500 to the average family plan. The levy on health policies will also increase by €49 per adult from April.
Experts are advising the public to prepare for these price increases. Dermot Goode, a health insurance expert, says more hikes are likely through 2025.
Medical inflation and more claims from private hospital treatments are driving these increases. For a family of four, VHI’s rise could add about €216 to their annual costs.
For retired couples on VHI’s pricier plans, the increase could be between €220 and €300. Families on corporate plans might see an extra €350 added to their bills.
