Irish households face electricity bill charges despite outages from Storm Eowyn. ESB and Eir clarify no compensation will be provided for service interruptions.
Dublin: Irish households are getting updates on their electricity bills after Storm Eowyn caused outages. Many people are wondering about their charges during this tough time.
ESB and Eir customers have been informed that they will still be charged, even without service. This news has left many feeling frustrated.
The Irish Mirror reached out to these companies to see if customers could get discounts or compensation. Unfortunately, both companies said no.
An ESB spokesperson explained that during storms, they don’t offer compensation. Their customer charter promises some payments, but storms are an exception.
If the power is out for over 24 hours, customers can claim some money. But again, storms change the rules.
A customer of Eir shared that they were told no credits would be given for the outage. Eir stated that the severe weather was the reason for the lack of service.
They also mentioned that they can’t be held responsible for interruptions caused by “acts of God,” like storms.
Meanwhile, An Post Mobile is helping customers on a case-by-case basis. They are in touch with Vodafone, their network provider.
As the storm recovery continues, gardai are warning about scams targeting those affected. With many outages, scammers are trying to take advantage of vulnerable people.
People are advised to be cautious of unexpected visitors and suspicious messages. Always verify the identity of anyone offering services.
Gardaí are coordinating the national response to the storm’s impact. They urge everyone to stay safe and report any suspicious activity.
