A Galway woman’s house suffered serious damage. A car fire outside caused it all.

The car caught fire in County Galway. It melted the driveway’s surface, and windows broke from intense heat. Smoke damaged the roof and walls.

Amy McGreal started a GoFundMe to help her mom, Mary. Mary dislikes asking for assistance.

The GoFundMe launched on February 4, 2025, with a goal of €8,000. People quickly donated almost €3,000 in one day.

Amy described the terrible damage, the result of a strange accident. “I’m raising funds for my mom” she stated, wanting to restore her home after the fire.

“My mom works hard and loves her home, and resists asking for help. But this situation demands it. Her car caught fire right outside. Extreme heat broke windows and the porch door, while smoke damaged walls and the roof. The fire melted the tarmac around the car.”

“A bedroom window is boarded up now. Car insurance covers the car. Home insurance is proving difficult and slow.”

“She needs windows fixed before more storms hit. Any donation will help greatly. Thank you, Amy and Family.”

Some Connemara areas lack power after Storm Eowyn, which happened eleven days ago. The storm caused major damage.

Many homes still struggle without power, and some face more permanent damage. Mobile coverage also remains spotty.

A Galway homeowner’s house was also damaged by the storm. Will Avery’s roof was torn off when winds reached 181 kph. Smaller buildings and homes took damage.

Will’s friends started a GoFundMe to pay to repair the roof and house to help Will return home.
