Despite service disruptions from Storm Eowyn, energy and phone companies confirm no discounts or compensation will be provided to affected customers.
The Irish Mirror reached out to several companies for clarification. They wanted to know if customers without electricity or broadband would receive any compensation. Unfortunately, the answer is no.
ESB Networks stated they don’t offer compensation during storms. Their customer charter promises some payments, but not in these exceptional cases.
If power is out for over 24 hours, customers can claim some compensation. But again, this doesn’t apply during storms.
A customer of Eir shared that the company also won’t credit for service loss. They were told it was due to a nationwide outage from the severe weather.
Eir’s terms state they aren’t liable for service interruptions caused by “acts of God,” like storms.
An Post Mobile mentioned they only offer a pay-as-you-go service. They are assisting customers on a case-by-case basis.
Meanwhile, gardai are warning about scams targeting those affected by the storm. With many outages, criminals are trying to take advantage of vulnerable people.
They advise anyone approached by strangers offering repair services to be cautious. Always verify the identity of anyone entering your home.
The National Emergency Co-ordination Group is managing the response to Storm Eowyn. An Garda Síochána is actively supporting these efforts.
