New recycling trial aims to simplify sorting for residents, potentially reducing litter and saving space.
Five hundred homes can join. Sorting plastics and metals should get easier, and streets will stay cleaner on trash days.
The test starts February 24. People get a red bag for some recyclables. They’ll put plastic bottles and trays inside, and metal like cans and foil also goes in.
This should improve recycling and might cut down on litter too. The bags save more space than boxes.
A council member spoke up, noting that residents recycle a lot already. Sorting it can take time, they said. The bags help residents and workers sort things and should also prevent spills.
Other places use bags successfully, and bags cost less than boxes. Good recycling sells for more money, and more money helps fund local things.
They picked different areas for the test to ensure they see different homes. People give feedback in surveys. The council watches recycling quality and checks for litter.
They review results this summer. Findings go to the council, and then, they decide what to do next.
