Teesside: So, there was this dog named Pepper who got into a bit of trouble. She swallowed a foam ball while playing at Seaton Carew beach. Not just any ball, but one of those used by EDF Energy to clean their cooling system. Yikes!

Pepper’s owner, Carol, noticed something was off when Pepper started acting lethargic and vomiting. She rushed her to Clifton Lodge Vets in Hartlepool. The vets quickly did some x-rays and found the ball lodged in her stomach.

They performed emergency surgery to remove it. Thankfully, Pepper is doing much better now. The vets warned that if the ball had stayed in longer, it could have been really dangerous for her.

Dr. Zoe Dykes, who operated on Pepper, said these foam balls are small and can easily be swallowed. She urged dog owners to keep an eye out for them on the beach. If you see your dog sniffing around, be careful!

Carol mentioned she had no idea about these balls. She said if she had known, she would have been more cautious. The vet practice even posted about it on Facebook, and it got a lot of attention from other dog owners.

EDF Energy is aware of the issue and is working to clean up any balls that wash ashore. They’re teaming up with local groups to make sure these hazards are removed. It’s great to see everyone coming together to keep our furry friends safe!
