Dave Cruxton retires from Staffordshire Police after 39 years of service, leaving a legacy of dedication and passion.
Dave worked on wildlife cases and road crime. He even taught skiing in France for a bit. Now, Dave is retiring; it’s also his birthday! Senior officers praised his dedication to the force.
He began his career in 1986 as a cadet. After that, he joined the mounted police. He rode around on horseback. The police say he adapted to many jobs, as he worked in response, wildlife, and road policing.
He taught skiing in France for a career break before then returning to response work in the Moorlands. He joined the road policing unit in 2018 when it was new.
Dave was a sergeant in Longton and the Moorlands. He helped a lot with the CRaSH project recently; this project involved training frontline officers and improving how collisions are investigated. His work improved collision recording and investigation.
He was also on the road crime team. They used off-road bikes to find bad riders around the Potteries area. He supports VIP escorts and oversized load operations.
Dave teaches BikeSafe as an instructor. Also, he volunteers with a young riders scheme run by Stoke-on-Trent City Council.
Senior officers say Dave’s impact will last. Chief Inspector Scott McGrath spoke about Dave. He noted Dave’s passion for teaching and mentoring, saying Dave left a legacy of dedication and his colleagues will really miss him.
