Horton in Ribblesdale: A tragic incident occurred recently in North Yorkshire. A caver fell while exploring Diccan Pot. The Cave Rescue Organisation received a call for help on Sunday around noon.

A group of cavers heard a loud bang and noticed the rope was tight. They feared for their friend’s safety and quickly called for assistance. Rescuers arrived and found the man unresponsive at the bottom of the pitch.

Despite their best efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene. The man was from the Durham area and was 64 years old. The police confirmed there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the incident.

The Cave Rescue Organisation expressed their condolences to the family and friends of the caver. They also thanked the University of Leeds for providing a base during the rescue operation. It’s a heartbreaking reminder of the risks involved in caving.
