A bus shelter in Marske, damaged in an accident, has been replaced after 398 days. Local councillor highlights the delays and ongoing transport issues in the area.
Cllr Learoyd shared his frustration on social media, posting funny videos to track the wait. He mentioned confusion over who owned the shelter caused delays.
The Redcar and Cleveland Council is responsible for maintaining bus shelters. However, the Tees Valley Combined Authority oversees broader transport services.
Cllr Carl Quartermain said they had ordered new shelters, but the supplier went out of business. This led to a new procurement process to find another company.
Cllr Learoyd expressed relief but noted that simple tasks like replacing a shelter shouldn’t take so long. He pointed out that local bus services remain limited and poorly connected.
The 81 bus, which stops at the new shelter, is the only remaining service in the area. It runs hourly during the day, but many residents still face transport challenges.
