David Harmer is set to climb Scafell Pike to raise funds for anti-knife crime charity in memory of his best friend Taylor Black
Stockton: David Harmer is doing something special. He’s planning a mountain trek to honor his best friend, Taylor Black, who was tragically murdered.
Taylor was just 18 when he lost his life in a brutal knife attack back in February 2020. His killer received a life sentence for the horrific crime.
Now, five years later, David wants to keep Taylor’s memory alive. He’s set to climb Scafell Pike, the highest mountain in England, to raise money for a charity that fights knife crime.
On February 17, David, along with his wife and friends, will ride their motorbikes to the Lake District. They’ll hike up the mountain and leave a flag at the top, honoring Taylor and other victims.
David remembers Taylor fondly. He says, “He was a lovely lad who always looked for the best in people. I still miss him every day.” They had a special bond that was hard to break.
David got the idea for this trek after participating in a charity ride earlier this year. He felt it was the right cause, especially since Taylor’s family received support from the Chris Cave Foundation.
He’s passionate about stopping knife crime. “It’s horrendous,” he says. “Every day, I see news about stabbings. It needs to stop.”
David believes Taylor would have loved this plan. They often talked about hiking together but never got the chance. Now, he’s making it happen.
Taylor’s mom, Lindsey, is proud of David. She says, “What he’s planning is brilliant. I’m really proud of him.” She appreciates the support from the Chris Cave Foundation, which has been a lifeline for her.
Lindsey shares how knife crime has affected her family deeply. It’s not just about losing Taylor; it’s about the lasting impact on everyone who loved him.
Theresa Cave, who founded the charity, praises David’s efforts. She believes it will help raise awareness and support for victims of knife crime.
Cleveland Police are also working hard to combat knife crime. Their campaigns aim to educate young people about the dangers of carrying knives.
